Marco C. de BruinMarco C. de Bruin

Marco C. de Bruin was born on August 15 1974 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Nowadays, he lives in The Hague. In his childhood, music hardly played any role in his life. Well, his father playes the electric organ once in a while, but that wasn't exactly love at first sight. After graduating from high school, Marco studied Electronics at the Zadkine College in Rotterdam. It was not until 1994 that he decided to switch to the Royal Conservatory in The Hague to study Sonology. “I guess I'm a bit of a late developer”, he now says.

Marco continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory; firstly, he became a qualified music teacher, then he graduated in the field of Theatre Music (2001). In the meantime, he studied Composition Jazz, Pop and World Music at the Conservatory of Rotterdam from 1999 until 2003. His private lessons with composers/arrangers Martin Fondse and Vince Mendoza (conductor of the Dutch Metropole Orchestra) and composer Klaas de Vries completed his studies.

In 2005 Marco has been appointed teacher in music arranging at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Since 2001, he also works as a conductor for the 'Haags Instrumentaal Jeugdsensemble'. He works as a conductor for all kinds of orchestras, ensembles and choirs and is also very active as a workshop leader and teacher, at home and abroad.
Both in 2000 and 2001, Marco wrote the winning composition for the VSB poetry price. In 2004, he won the international EBU Arrangers Workshop of the Dutch Metropole Orchestra, excelling in his two compositions ‘La Deux Chevaux’ and ‘Canteloupe Island’. Last but not least, in 2004 his composition ‘She’s running mad, the Virgo’ was nominated for the 26th Jazz Hoeilaart International Contest of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
