Dalal MaroufDalal Marouf

In 1996 she won the Amsterdam guitar battle. Still Dalâl Marouf, daugther of an Algerian father and a Dutch mother, doesn't primarily see herself as a guitar-player. 'I've been writing songs since I was fifteen, and that is still the most important thing to me', she says. 'It started with 'decent' guitar songs, but now you can best define my music as heavy acoustic pop with influences of rock, funk and african music. And I have a couple of ballads on my repertoire as well.' The guitar-player/ singer songwriter has been active for fourteen years in the pop music. For four years she played in the hard funk group Nasty Girls, with whom she performed on stage several hundred times. When this band broke up, she decided to go back to basics: she performs her own songs, only armed with her guitar. And she's successful: with her fierce guitar-playing, characteristic voice and powerful songs, Dalal has won a broad public and has become an act in great demand in the dutch music cafés.
