Highlights included playing and recording in Havana, Cuba; touring Italy with a modern dance group, including a one week stint at Inteatro, Milan; doing some concerts with Tony Overwater in Las Vegas, Nevada; the list goes on and on... In 1999 producer Haryy van Dalen invited me to make a recording for his Turtle Records label, giving me a carte blanche as far as the music was concerned..... This gave me the chance to do what I always thought I wanted to do: be a composer. So I put together the Respectable People’s Music Ensemble (W.A.R.P.), and started writing. The result can be listened to on the CD ‘Maarten Ornstein and W.A.R.P.-music ensemble’, on Turtle Records. Since then things have gone very fast; I was asked by dutch theatre company Orkater to write the music for the stageplay “entertainment” , performed by the theatre-group ‘t Barre Land , (The Wasteland), and in 2001 I received a composition-assignment from the world famous North Sea Jazzfestival, being the first composer to receive such an honor.
